WIPO UDRP review

WIPO has published its review of the operation of the UDRP for 2007 ...

It turns out that 2007 was a record year for the number of disputes filed with WIPO's Arbitration and Mediation Center.

About one quarter of disputes settled between the parties before going to a Panel; 85% of the remainder were resolved in favour of the Complainant and 15% were denied.

The review includes stats and tables for who is making the complaints and where the respondents are: the US, France and the UK continue to file more complaints; the US, the UK and China provide most of the respondents, but there was a large increase in the home countries of respondents.  Australia provided 300 respondents and 224 complainants.

WIPO identifies continued problems with domain tasting - free registration of a domain name for 5 days to test how well it generates click through revenue.  There is some dark muttering about some registrars being in league with some registrants.
